Each Section is open to both boys and girls. Your child’s age will determine the Section they can join.
Section | Age Range | Meeting Day | Meeting Times |
Beavers | 6 – 8 years | Monday | 6:00 – 7:15pm |
Cubs | 8 – 10½ years | Tuesday | 6:00 – 7:30pm |
Scouts | 10½ – 14 years | Wednesday | 7:00 – 8:30pm |
There can be up to a 6 month over lap to allow Groups of friends to move between Sections together.
Subs
The Skewen Scout Group charge £10 per month spread over the whole year. This is collected via a standing order with your bank.
On occasions we may ask for you to subsidise a small amount to cover additional costs.
This money is used to pay:
- annual fees to District, Area and National headquarters for insurance, Leader training etc.
- towards the Group to cover the cost of running our headquarters
- the cost of badges and books etc.
- for some extra activities to benefit your child
Code of Acceptable Behaviour
The members of the scout group follow a code of behaviour during weekly meetings and on camps and outings.
View the Code of Acceptable Behaviour
School HolidaysWe do not normally meet during the school holidays. There are also rare times when we have the need to cancel our usual weekly meetings – should this happen, members are always informed in advance. |
LeavingIf a member does not attend for 4 consecutive meetings; without notifying the Section Leader, this will result in the assumption that they have left the Group. If you do leave the Group, it is courtesy to inform the relevant person(s) – usually your Section Leader. |
What do they do?
Beaver Scouts play games, do various activities and go on visits. They meet together once a week during school term time in a Beaver Scout Colony. Beaver Scout activities are a combination of learning and having fun. They learn about themselves, they get to know people from their local community, find out about life in other countries and explore through organised activities.
There are many fun things that Cubs can do. Cubs will get a chance to try lots of different activities like camping, exploring, swimming, computing and collecting. A badge that can be worn on the uniform may be awarded if the activity has been done properly.
Scouts take part in a wide range of activities. Scouts spend a lot of time outdoors – camping and experiencing a wide range of adventurous activities; anything from hill walking to cooking. |
Promise and Law
The Promise is a simple way to help young people and adults celebrate their shared Scout values. Every Scout promises to stick by these values when they become a member.
There are four versions of the Promise appropriate to different age groups. There is a Promise for:

- Scouts, Explorers and adults.
Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We have different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.
