Who we are
9th Skewen Scout Group started in 1930 and has grown and developed into the group that is here today.
The group serves the village of Skewen and any surrounding areas. We currently have members from Skewen, Neath Abbey, Llansamlet, Birchgrove, Jersey Marine and Longford.
At present we have about 50 young people and 9 leaders/assistant leaders attending on a regular basis.
How Does It Work?
The Scout Group is split into 3 sections; Beavers 6-8, Cubs 8-10½ and Scouts 10½-14.
Each section is run by volunteer leaders. Each volunteer has been DBS checked to ensure they are suitable to work with Young People. The section leaders are supported by a Group Lead Volunteer (GLV) and by a Group Trustee Board and Support Team.
All volunteers have the support and training they need available from the Scout Association to ensure everyone involved enjoys Scouting in a safe manner without risk to health, so far as is reasonably practicable.
All Leaders are trained, as a requirement, in the First Response First Aid Training Scheme.
The Purpose of Scouting
The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of Young People in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
It is a Scouting belief that no person should receive less favourable treatment on the basis of, nor suffer disadvantage by reason of age, class, ethnic origin, nationality (or statelessness), race, gender, marital or sexual status, mental or physical ability, political or religious belief.
